I was able to get a corner started and get behind the carpet with a stiff putty knife or 5&1 tool and work the it loose a little at a time, dirty work. I wore a respirator because that carpet tends to hold some mold that can potentially get airborn.

As for what is going back, I think I'm going to fair it out, paint and put snap in vinyl cushions in. I want something that's easy to clean and won't hold moisture.
